Have you ever been the only Christian in the room? I sometimes overhear conversations at work about modern society or government policy and wonder how people can think that way. Bible study at my church most Sundays always seem to have people complaining about how ungodly society and the government have become. It’s disheartening to hear, but never hopeless.
Psalm 12 reminds us that God hears the weak and oppressed. He’s always listening and ready to help. We are never alone. If you ever feel like the only Christian around, call someone from church, maybe set up a coffee date with a Christian friend. The main reason for a church on this earth is to build up believers in a support network of other believers, to nourish our faith in the huge family of believers. God knows that humans are not meant to be alone. We are relationship driven creatures and churches are there to build relationships that help us encourage each other in faith. If you don’t belong to a church but need encouraging, stop by a local church or find a good forum online.
In 1 Kings 19 Elijah thought he was the last follower of God in all of Israel, but God told him that there were over seven thousand people still faithful. This was back before countries had millions of people, but the point is that everyone feels alone sometimes. If you struggle with loneliness or wondering if being faithful is worth it, reach out and talk to other Christians. God never said it would be easy to follow Him, but He has set up support for those times we need it. If you are feeling secure, but see someone else who might be questioning things, reach out and say hi. Remind them that they aren’t alone. It may be just what someone needs.
