Opposing God's Plan Is Pointless

The second chapter of Psalms is a warning to not actively work against God’s plan. This was written in a time when God made His plan well known through prophets and signs. Since rulers usually sought signs from their gods before making decisions, they didn’t have any excuse to not do God’s will.

My study Bible says that this was also a coronation hymn for the old kings of Israel, at least the ones from David’s family. It would’ve been a strong reminder to seek God’s plan in any decisions the new king made or suffer His wrath. It was a warning that God’s plans always occur as He plans, but also that anyone who obeys Him is safe and powerful.  Solomon certainly proved that.

Modern day readers receive a strong warning to obey God as well, but His will is no longer stated so clearly as it was from prophets long ago. Now a days people sometimes get signs from God, but often we need to take what God said in the Bible and apply it to our lives.   Since God is in a believer’s heart, sometimes all we need to do to hear God’s commands is to pray and wait for His peace or joy to tell us what He wants us to do.  It is usually pretty obvious what God doesn't want us to do.  If something feels absolutely wrong or hurts people, it probably isn't in God's plan for you.
